The wine growing region of Baja California lies within the valleys of San Vicente, Santo Tomás and Guadalupe. These valleys just outside of Ensenada Baja California are blessed with some of the most ideal Mediterranean climate for grape growing. Today more than 90% of Mexico's table wines are produced in Guadalupe Valley. Every year during the month of August, the beginning of wine harvest season is celebrated in the Guadalupe Valley called the Fiestas de la Vendimia. Ensenada wine country is located about seventy miles south of San Diego. About one mile south of that toll station look for the sign Tecate Highway 3 or Ruta del Vino (Wine Route) and travel east on Highway 3 for seven miles until you drop down into the Baja wine country at San Antonio de las Minas. All the wineries are located along Highway 3. Most of the wineries in Ensenada offer wine tasting's and some offer snacks, however it is always best to call first and make a reservation.
